Charles was born and raised in the coalfields of Southwest Virginia. After attending Grundy High School, he earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia in 2002 and graduated from the West Virginia University College of Law in 2006. While at West Virginia, Charles was an associate editor of the West Virginia Law Review and an executive director of the M.E. Lugar Trial Association. He also received a Master of Business Administration degree from the West Virginia University College of Business and Economics where he was a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society.
Following law school, Charles gained admission to practice law in both Virginia and Tennessee. Throughout his career, Charles has gained a breadth of legal experience. He has successfully defended clients accused of felonies and misdemeanors, assisted with complex commercial litigation, performed contested and uncontested divorces, reunited family members, and guided the formation and sale of small businesses.
After working in communities throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia, from Richmond to Roanoke, Charles is excited to return to his roots to open his practice in Southwest Virginia. Charles understands that the circumstances surrounding divorces, child custody proceedings, criminal charges, business disputes, and other legal matters can be incredibly stressful. He strives to alleviate that stress by providing accessibility to his clients and zealously advocating on their behalf throughout all stages of the legal process.
In 2017, Charles completed the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership program at the University of Virginia. Charles was named one of the top 100 criminal defense attorneys in the Commonwealth of Virginia by the National Trial Lawyers in 2020.
In his free time, Charles enjoys spending time with friends and family, being outdoors, watching sports, following current events, studying history, and reading good books.
